Where are the best places to live?

Aug 31, 2009 @ 08:40 pm by articles

When you say “best places to live” what exactly do you mean?  Do you mean best places for singles, best places to settle down, best places to raise a family, best places to work, best place to retire.  The term best places to live is too big of an idea for it to apply to everyone.  One best place may be the worst place for someone else.

So with all that said, where are the best places to live?  You need to do some searching inside yourself and find out what really makes you happy and find a place that makes it easier to make you happy.  Does that make sense?  It is all about what from live and from your surroundings.  If you want lots of culture go to places that have several museums and art galleries.  But then some people consider that high culture and not the culture they are looking for.

You may want a mix of younger and older generations.  If so a college town may be one of the best places to live for you.  If you are young and starting out and want to establish yourself, LA, New York, Chicago, or Atlanta may work great for you.  These places are loaded with other busy workaholic singles who don’t have much time for a serious relationship.

And then you have to factor in the weather.  If you get depressed with cloudy days, Seattle is not for you.  If you don’t like the cold and snow, the Northeast is not for you.  If you don’t like humid heat, South Texas is not for you.  But who says you have to stay in the States anyway?  There are tons of other best places to live around the world.  You just have to find them.

Should You Buy An Electric or Acoustic Guitar?

Aug 31, 2009 @ 03:53 pm by articles

“Picking” the right guitar for you can be quite an ordeal. You want it to look cool hanging from around your neck, but you also want it to be comfortable and unique. You see the many different types on television and that makes it even more difficult to decide. The first decision that you have to make is between an electric guitar and an acoustic guitar. Knowing a few things about both might help you to make and informed and educated decision.

The biggest difference between an acoustic and an electric guitar is quite simply amplification. An electric one needs an amplifier, but they are much easier to play. The electric instrument will cost more because you will have to purchase a good amp, and they both cost quite a bit of money. The acoustic instrument is more limited in shape and size because both shape and size make a difference on the sound that comes from the guitar itself.

You do get more of a selection when you choose an electric one. Although an electric guitars are easier to learn on, there are obviously limited types of music that you can play with it. So, if you learn with an acoustic one, you might find yourself a better musician in the end.

Acoustic guitars do have choices as well. You can get a steel string or a nylon string guitar. A nylon string guitar is good for playing music styles such as classical, flamenco, and folk. The reason for the particular styles is that the nylon string produces a more tranquil and smoother sound.

The steel string guitars are much louder and you find that they gravitate more towards rock, country, and any other style that requires a louder, crisper sound. While the nylon is almost always played with fingers, the steel string is usually played with a pick.

Deciding between an electric and an acoustic instrument can be a moot point due to the option of buying a blended guitar. This type of guitar combines the ease of learning generally associated with an electric guitar and the rich sound of an acoustic guitar.

The design and style of the blended guitars are also a combination of both kinds of guitars in that the body is similar to an acoustic instrument while the neck generally resembles the electric instrument style. The blended guitar sounds much better when used with an amplifier rather than by itself.

Do not bite off more than you can chew. You should master whatever you feel the most comfortable with first. For example, many people fall in love with the sound of a twelve-string guitar. This instrument is known for a rich sound that resembles two guitars playing at once. The twelve-string guitar would be frustrating and infinitely harder to learn before mastering a simpler six string electric guitar.

You may want to pay close attention to your own preferences. If you want to be a rock star, and you love Aerosmith, looking for a huge acoustic guitar would not be the wisest decision because you will hate learning to play. The same rule applies for the next James Taylor; don’t invest in an expensive amplifier if it is just not your style.  The electric guitar can be a lot of fun to play for your friends – and maybe even your own band some day in the future.

Secrets to Weight Loss Success

Aug 31, 2009 @ 03:09 pm by articles

Have you been struggling with your weight for a long time? Have you tried several fad diets, or maybe even taken diet pills, but none of them worked to get the excess weight off you? You most likely have tried starving yourself. In fact, you probably tried to starve yourself first before trying out all the other fad diets.

Do you lack the willpower to lose weight? Do you need weight loss motivation?

What you need to realize is that starving yourself is not going to (and won’t ever) help you lose weight. In fact, starvation can cause you to keep those excess pounds on and even add on a few! By the way, did you make exercise a part of your weight loss plan? No?

No wonder you can’t shed off those unwanted pounds! The keys to weight loss are nutrition and exercise. And you have to be consistent and persistent too.

For sustainable weight loss eat a healthy, well balanced diet. This means cutting back (or eliminating) on fatty foods, junk food, sugary drinks and similar foods. You also need to exercise to increase your body’s metabolism. The better your metabolism, the more efficient your body is burning the calories. When your body is efficiently burning calories, you will see the weight come off. There are breathing exercise designed to encourage weight loss.

Doing the above mentioned isn’t a one-off thing. You need to be consistent — in eating healthy foods and on exercising. Don’t act surprised if you don’t lose weight if you’re still eating the same unhealthy foods you’ve been eating. And you need to be persistent. Don’t expect to shed off the excess pounds overnight; it takes time. Your body needs to adjust itself to a healthy weight loss plan for a few weeks.

Let’s take an even closer look at each of the key aspects to successful weight loss:

1. Nutrition

Switch to non-fattening foods that will provide your body with sufficient amounts of nutrients it needs to function efficiently on a daily basis. Starving yourself doesn’t work for weight loss. Why? When your body recognizes that you are starving it, it will go into survival mode and store whatever food you give it. It may be counterintuitive, but eating can cause weight loss, not starving! Go for low-fat and no-fat foods. Consume fresh fruits and vegetables every day. If you love meat, go for lean meat, preferably salmon or chicken instead of red meat.

2. Exercise

Exercise not only helps your heart become stronger and make you healthy overall, it helps raise your metabolism. The higher your metabolism, the faster your body burns calories. You can achieve weight loss safely if the amount of calories your body is burning is more than the calories you are consuming. Health experts recommend exercising at least 30 minutes three times a week. Walking, cycling and swimming are exercises that can help promote weight loss.

3. Deep Breathing

A few times during the day, do a 15-minute deep breathing session. It is believed that deep breathing helps your body burn energy.

4. Consistency and Persistence

5. Weight Loss Inspiration

Frankly, weight loss motivation should be at #1, but for most people it’s the least considered part of a successful weight loss plan.

In order for your weight loss plan to be effective, you need to be consistent and persistent. Keep eating healthy meals and exercising regularly. If you waver or skimp on any part of your weight loss plan, you’ll stop losing weight.

A Few More Tips

Instead of eating 3 big meals, try to eat 5 or 6 smaller meals. Don’t eat four hours before you go to bed as doing so can disrupt your sleep. Your body needs to rest at night and it can’t do that if it has to digest the foods you’ve eaten close to bed time.

No fad diet or diet pill can bring you the same results of a healthy weight loss plan that involves proper nutrition and exercise. This weight loss plan is safe too and guaranteed to give you results!

Selecting the best home decor

Aug 30, 2009 @ 05:20 pm by articles

One of the most attractive aspects of visiting a home we are unfamiliar with is getting familiar with the decor, and this frequently shows us clues as to what kind of person they are. The true character of our natures, along with the things we like and dislike, can be seen easily through the decorations in our homes. The more sensible side of us can be seen through the efficient way we store items in our kitchens. The natural tones we use to paint our lounge would point to someone who likes a place to relax when they come home from a hard days work.

Learn more about cabinet doors and how to decorate your kitchen. There is also a guide to everything you wanted to know about unfinished cabinets.

Though visitors might not be privy to it, the decorations of a bedroom – particularly one that is deep with reds and satin – indicate a different side to our character. When planning our home’s decor, separating public areas from private is a good idea. A family throwing a party, in all likelihood, will attempt to keep certain areas of the house off limits due to their private nature.

Generally speaking, because bedrooms and associated areas will not be seen by anyone other than the home owner and close friends, you can save the luxury for those areas. A very popular part of any decor is flooring, and the type of floor that you choose will depend on how highly traveled your floor is. However, regardless of what type of floor you pick, the color and quality will give others definite clues to your personality. Busy traffic areas like the hallway or kitchen are great for hard wearing laminates, whereas a soft carpet material such as wool is better for the bedrooms.

The accessories and hardware you choose will also give big tips in what kind of decor you choose. Lighting can make a big difference to how each room is perceived. Highlighting certain areas, through the use of a spotlight, can be either practical or purely for an aesthetic purpose. This can be carried through in the way you decorate the rest of your home.

If you like to highlight objects and possessions that matter to you, spotlights and single light fittings can do this very well. On the other hand, a more minimalist look would go for simplistic mood lighting. In essence, we should be careful when we pick our home’s decor, because it could reveal more about our personality than we might begin to think it would.

Which Debts To Pay Off First

Aug 30, 2009 @ 03:40 pm by articles

It is quite likely that if you are experiencing debt problems then you are finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with your monthly debt repayments. Your income can only go so far and only some of your expenses can be reduced.

You therefore have little choice but to either delay, or not pay at all, some debt repayments as they come due. In this situation you will be forced to think very hard about which payments you really should pay first. You risk several things such as your home, gas, electricity, car and even your household possessions.

Following the rules in this chapter may make the difference between keeping or losing important property.

Do Not Take On More Debt To Pay Off Old Debt.

A short-term fix can lead to long-term problems.

Instead of delaying or eliminating certain debt repayments, you may be tempted to take on more debt to repay old debts. This is generally a bad idea. When you should and should not refinance, consolidate or take out new loans is discussed in a later article.

One option for you could very well be to take a look at debt consolidation loans. Although not always the best option, in some cases they give you enough breathing room to make ends meet for your family.

The main thing to do with too much debt is to decide which debts should be paid first, which you can refuse to pay, and which you can delay for a period of time.

The most important creditor to pay is not necessarily the creditor who screams the loudest or the most often. Creditors who yell the loudest often do so only because they have no better way to get their money.

The creditors to be the most concerned about are those who quickly take action against your home, car, utility service or any other vital assets you may have.

Pay off creditors who can take the quickest action to hurt you, not those who yell the loudest and call the most often.

The money you do have should be used for the most important things for your family such as food, clothing, a roof over their heads and utilities.

Since there is no ‘wonder list’ which gives the specific order in which debts should be paid, you should use this article as a general reference guide and make more decisions based on this information and your particular circumstances.

Debt consolidation loans, or any loans for that matter, with collateral are top priorities.

There is one thing you should bear in mind when deciding which debts to default on and which ones to make a priority to pay, and that is the idea of ‘collateral’.

Collateral is defined as a physical object stipulated as being used as an object of value which will be recovered in the case where non-payment of a loan takes place, usually your home (mortgage) or car (car finance).

A creditor may also have collateral in your household goods, business property, bank account, or even wages. Collateral can take many forms. When a creditor has taken collateral for your loan, it has a “lien” on your property.

Determine which of your debts are ‘secured’ and which are ‘unsecured’. Debt consolidation loans could fall into either category.

It is very nearly always the best policy to pay off your secured debts first. Creditors with collateral are secure in the knowledge that they can take the collateral from you and sell it to get their money back. That is why they are called ‘secured creditors’.

Creditors without collateral are often referred to as “unsecured.” It is usually hard for unsecured creditors to collect what they are owed unless you pay voluntarily.

The notion that ‘secured debts’ are the ones most vital to pay is a fairly simple one. The problem arises when you have a constant stream of debt collectors harassing you to pay unsecured debt, often distracting you from keeping the ‘secured debt first’ rule in mind.

It is extremely important to remember this concept as you make decisions about your financial future.

Herbal Antidepressants

Aug 30, 2009 @ 02:47 pm by articles

Numerous herbal antidepressants are available quite easily both on the Internet and as over-the-counter herbal remedies for depression, but it is rather difficult to trust most of them. Actually only a small number of them are of any real value, because most of the others are not supported by evidence of their being effective through extensive clinical studies. Some of the herbal antidepressants may claim some scientific support, but that support is based on insufficient statistical data or on clinical studies that are inconclusive or not extensive enough to produce valid results.

Generally, in cases of depression, the doctor has to ascertain the severity of a person’s depression. A particular person may be afflicted with quite a severe bout of depression and in that case, the doctor may prescribe antidepressant drugs either alone or in combination with psychotherapy. Most herbal antidepressants may not work well enough for persons suffering from severe depression. Even if the herbal antidepressants used are not prescription drugs, it is advisable to take a qualified medical specialist’s advice in the matter of using them. Children under 12 should not be given herbal antidepressants without the approval of a pediatrician. Actually, it may be better to opt for psychological treatment in cases of children and teenagers.

The alcoholic extract from St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum) has found great scientific support as being a very effective antidepressant. Its active ingredient is called hyperforin, a phloroglucinol derivative, which is an antidepressant compound. Herbal antidepressants claiming to have the standardized, pharmaceutical grade St. John’s Wort extract, but which contain less than 3% of hyperforin, will not give you the desired relief from depression. The extract that has 5% of hyperforin will work best, as per the evidence established through clinical studies.

Those suffering from mild to moderate depression need to take a daily dose of about 900 mg of St. John’s Wort. The dosage goes up to about 1800 mg for cases of increased levels of depression. However, the actual dosage depends upon the age of the patient and the severity of the depression the patient experiences. Younger persons, and persons having milder depression, have to take a lower dosage.

5 – HTP, (5 – hydroxytryptophan) extracted from a plant called Griffonia simplicifolia, is an amino acid which is useful in combating depression and anxiety. If 5 – HTP is added to go with hyperforin, St. John’s Wort will work more effectively.

Almost all the well-known prescription antidepressant drugs of all types have multiple side effects. TCAs (Tricyclic Antidepressants) are known to cause a dry mouth, constipation, sleepiness, weight gain and sexual dysfunction, besides some other problems. SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors), especially in the first few weeks of taking them, cause among other things indigestion, impotence or sexual dysfunction, problems in controlling urination, giddiness, confusion, difficulty in remembering, palpitation, increase in blood pressure and so on. Other types of antidepressants also produce side effects.

That is why more and more depressed people are turning to herbal antidepressants, as these have hardly any of the harmful or painful side effects associated with many popular prescription antidepressants. However, it is always advisable to obtain the doctor’s opinion before choosing to take a particular over-the-counter herbal antidepressant or other herbal health products meant for depressed people.

Does Piano Playing Make You Smarter?

Aug 29, 2009 @ 03:27 pm by articles

Does hearing music cause you to be more intelligent? If you master the performance of a musical instrument will your brain size increase? Does learning to play the piano really make you smarter? Inquiries similar to this have been exploding everywhere during the past several years, not only in scientific journals.

Currently, the media has been very interested by the studies about brain development and music, ready to broadcast about the most recent research, making the parents of young children who adore music very happy. All of these details, and some incorrect information, has caused a lot of uncertainty about what music does and if music lessons help the brain function better. It all comes down to this: Many people find that the studies relating music and the brain are befuddling.

Partially, this is because of the way that the words “The Mozart Effect” was made popular by the media and ended up being used as a synonym for any condition that music has a positive influence on cognition or behavior. As a matter of fact, the Mozart Effect is based on a study done in 1993 by Frances Rauscher, Gordon Shaw and Katherine Ky, which was printed in the renowned journal “Nature.” The scientists discovered that 36 students in college who tuned into 10 minutes of a Mozart composition had a better score on a spatial-temporal assignment than if they had heard calming techniques or did not hear anything at all.

An enchanted media described this fascinating study as “Mozart makes you smarter” which is an exaggeration of the first results. But there is very little doubt that piano lessons or other musical instruction benefits the student in many different ways. As Rauscher describes in a later article, the Mozart Effect was researched with just adults, with just several minutes duration and spatial temporal reasoning were the only concept that was analyzed. Since all the findings have surfaced, the industry has come out with books, CD’s, and many websites stating that listening the Classical music will help make children more intelligent.

Since science has opposing views, as well as being confused about the Mozart Effect, this has caused parents to be unsure about what to believe. Parents wonder: should my kids really bother with learning music? The answer to this is yes, because many research studies have proven that music contributes unequivocally to the positive growth in the human brain. More researchers have experimented again and come to the same conclusion the original researchers did in 1993 – that if you listen to Mozart it increases your spatial understanding.

More studies done in 1994 by Rauscher and her associates revealed that following eight months of keyboard training, nursery school age children showed a 46% increase in their spatial reasoning IQ, an ability that is crucial for specific kinds of mathematical analysis. So the bottom line is this: practicing and studying music does indeed help in brain growth in many important ways. Anyway, if you love music, you don’t have anything to worry about if you try, and a lot of benefits to gain.

Who owns the Intellectual Property in an AdWords account?

Aug 29, 2009 @ 01:08 pm by articles

If you run your AdWords campaign properly you’ll know that some keywords generate highly profitable visitors to your website. You will also recognise that most keywords are just not profitable. Unearthing which are good takes time and the process of uncovering the profitable niches keywords requires detailed analysis, thought, testing and patient measurement.

I run a campaign that uses just three keywords to generate a steady flow of cash into my bank. I advertise a specific service using these three keywords and earn a commission whenever I deliver a new customer to them. I don’t get involved in lead capture or anything like that for this campaign. I just drive targeted traffic to the service provider’s website via my affiliate link.

The same three keywords have been highly profitable for over 18 months and generally generate in commissions 3 to 4 times what I spend on clicks.

So would I be prepared to disclose these keywords to you? Only for a price.

These keywords are responsible for producing an automatic income stream for me and will probably continue to do so for years to come. They are obscure. They took a lot of research and ingenuity to find and I am now benefiting essentially from the intellectual property I have tied up in my AdWords account.

Many companies have a huge intellectual property investment in their Pay Per Click campaigns without realising it. So I thought it would be interesting to try and put some value on this just so that advertisers became more aware of the true value that a well-run campaign delivers.

I’ll keep the mathematics simple and so there is some inaccuracy in my calculations. The point is to demonstrate the principle rather than perform an accurate assessment, something which would require actuarial skills.

So here goes.

Suppose I spend $500 a month on a particular campaign and that it produces $1500 a month in income. My profit, which is automatically generated, is then $1000 a month or $12000 a year.

If this income stream was going to carry on for ever (which it won’t) then we could give it a capital value of the annual income divided by the current interest rates. If interest rates are 5%, then the capital value is $12000 divided by 0.05 = $240000. This is the amount of capital you would need to place on deposit with a safe institution to receive the equivalent annual income.

Realistically I know that my income from this campaign is much less secure than money in the bank but that doesn’t stop me making an estimate of its capital value.

Suppose I give my campaign a life-expectancy of just 2 more years. That is 24 months of $1000 a month profit or $24000. (I am not bothering to calculate the time value of money here which takes into account the fact that money now is worth more than money later. It is the magnitude I am after rather than precision.)

If these figures applied to my campaign, each keyword would be worth an average of $8000 to me. If the campaign had a life-expectancy of 3 years instead of 2, the value would be $12000 per keyword instead.

These are shockingly large figures.

So the questions you should take away from this article are:

1. Have you ever stopped to work out what some of your keywords are really worth to you?

2. Have you ever stopped to think carefully who you are disclosing your campaign details to when you ask someone else to manage your AdWords account for you?

As an AdWords Account Manager I look after my clients accounts as if they are assets of their businesses. My job in some respects is to grow the value of those assets as well as to deliver high ROI and profitability.

James Home School Ideas

Aug 28, 2009 @ 06:41 pm by articles

Some 26% of parents in each one of the American states consider home schooling for their children over standard college classes.  This is due to the advantages both the parents and the youngsters get as a social being.  Home schooling gives them the chance to be free of Old Skool days with pressure and daily assignments.  Due the old set up, many members of the family have become isolated from one another letting them only a few dear times with their loved ones.

There are four important reasons why oldsters go for home studying for their youngsters, a ) social reasons, b ) educational reasons, c ) family reasons, and d ) religious reasons.  Yes, a modern education is very important.

Social Reasons

By joining the community cycle, oldsters fee that their youngsters are more cushty in working with different kinds of people.  They feel that their youngsters have a smaller tendency of becoming dependent with peers.  By introducing the kids more to church and community programs, these home-schooled kids do not feel self conscious and recognized, as children are easier to talk to.

The catalogue, Growing Without Schooling publisher Pat Farenga wrote : Group experiences are an enormous part of education, and home schoolers have lots of them.  They write to us about how they form or join writing clubs, book chat groups and local home-schooling groups.  Home schoolers also take part in college sports teams and music groups ( in nearby public faculties ), as well as in the numerous private and non-private group activities our communities provide.  These young people can and do experience folks and cultures without going to school.”

The home schooling setting deviates the kid’s attention from alcohol, premarital sex, drugs, violence and mafia that might destroy his future.  And since home-schooled kids are free from peer pressure, they are likely to have more friends from the church and community activities.  Some communities created a special group for home-schooled youngsters where field trips, social recreations and team building games are organized.  This builds respect and opens channels for communication.

Academic Reasons

Parents believe that the less scholars handled by the teacher, the more focus is provided each one of the learners.  They thought that the private teaching of teachers is the most successful way of helping the kids learn successfully.  The most famous home-schooled personalities in history are : Thomas Edison, Charles Dickens, Winston Churchill, Agatha Christie, Florence Nightingale, Woodrow Wilson, Woodrow bros, and Benjamin Franklin.  One parent got more of his kids’s educational coaching in home schooling through the process of exchanging abilities with other home schooled kids.  Being an english degree holder, he teaches three of his co-worker’s sons, while his colleague teaches his children maths.

Although home schooling is, as derived from its own name home, this special education also developed into a more organized and planned instrument of teaching.  One example is the High fields Christian Home educators that was established in Colorado Springs who has its own director who sees to it that all 2 hundred of their home-schooled children are given enough classes.  Unlike a standard faculty setting, home-run studying allows every one of the subject areas to be taught separately making the approach cross trained.

Every one of the students is given their own set of action plans so they can have the liberty to continue their zeal.  Special time is provided for each so that more focus can be imputed to their learning success.

Family Reasons

Parents of home-schooled youngsters feel their presence felt by their children.  Family relationship is strengthened and ties are intact.  A child’s self esteem are far more boosted thanks to the parents’ full support.  Based on the American League of research Studies, youngsters that are home schooled are mo re loving and assured.

Religious Reasons

colleges in the States have kept away from any religious and political issues for fear of influence from the 2, the reason being because many arranged civil freedoms even brought the issue of religious illegality in courts.

For that same reason, parents find teaching their children at home a worry free place for religious and religious expansion.  Religion can be inculcated as much as the parents would need to bring the entire belief to their kids in home schooling and they suspect that it’s impact can really affect the spirituality of their developing youngsters.
