Shelter Adoption ? Sure Fire Tips For Adopting A Dog From A Shelter

Feb 24, 2009 @ 03:26 pm by articles

A growing epidemic in the world today are the numbers of dogs being abandoned at animal shelters and rescues. There are literally millions of homeless animals that are put into cages and kennels all over the United States that left unadopted face being euthanized(put to sleep). This plight includes purebred dogs as well as mixed breeds and covers all ages including puppies! Most people want purebred puppies and dogs either due to personal preference or because they want a show dog.

If that is the case with you, then a shelter dog is probably not where you want to start! You will want to see out a reputable breeder or kennel. However, if you are looking for a forever canine companion a mixed breed is a great choice to make! Mixed breeds are just as intelligent and beautiful as a pooch with a pedigree! They can be well trained and are waiting patiently and with hope that a wonderful family will come along to adopt them and give them a loving home.

When you have decided to adopt a shelter puppy or dog from an animal shelter, rescue, or adoption center you want to make sure that your potential new friend is healthy. Often times dogs that are kept in ill equipped or poorly funded shelters and rescues have health issues such as kennel cough or can even have health issues that are not visible to the eye.

So you want a dog or puppy that has a beautiful and shiny coat, bright and alert eyes that are free from discharge, noses that are free from discharge, no coughing, vomiting, or diarrhea which could mean a serious condition. Another thing to keep in mind, is the dog should be at a healthy weight. When you rest your hands on your dog’s hips you should not be able to feel in between his bones. If you do feel their bones and the spaces in between then the poor dog is underweight and that is unhealthy. You will also need to pick up some dog supplies such as and possibly elevated dog feeders so your dog can eat healthy if he’s larger. Also you may need some dog pajamas to keep your doggie warm and don’t forget your items for your pet right now.

The downside of this is just like when you buy a used car, unless you take your puppy for a “test drive” you won’t know what you are getting. Chances are pretty high that your new puppy or dog will be perfectly healthy and fine, but because these are shelter dogs; dogs that have been rescued from abusive or neglect or homeless dogs you could encounter peculiar tempers and emotional issues that were developed from living in the shelter.

Being sensitive to these problems and using positive training techniques from either a trainer or from the advice of your veterinarian, there is still no reason why even these dogs that have special needs cannot be transformed into great pets and additions to your home! Most of these problems are temporary and with a lot of love, affection, and no harsh training or scolding a shelter dog is going to come around and these issues will be non exisistant!

Commercial Millions

Some people are profitting big during this recession and downturn in the real estate market.

While millions of Americans are suffering economically, some ordinary folks are making huge sums of money combining two things you’d least expect: Real estate and the recession. As the housing market continues to plummet, a few commercial real estate asset classes are skyrocketing and some folks have learned how to acquire them with no money, credit or previous real estate experience.

These rags-to-riches stories are using two very clever and patent pending strategies taught by Jason Gilbert at the Commercial Training Institute. One strategy is used for land and the other for income property.

Master Lease Options

For income property, students learn to locate properties that perform better in a recession but won’t sell because of high vacancies due to poor management or marketing.  Instead of buying them, the students lease the entire building, hire a local expert to fix the management or marketing problem, and pocket 100% of all the new income which is can easily be $10,000 to $50,000 per month on small to mid size properties.  The student also gets an option to buy the property at today’s value, then sells or exercises the option to buy it when it’s worth much, much more and fully performing. Called “Master Lease Option”, it’s literally a try-before-you-buy strategy that eliminates most of the risk and requires no money to get in the hot commercial real estate game.  If the deal turns out to be a dud, you aren’t stuck with it as the new owner and don’t wind up one of those motivated, distressed sellers.  You don’t own the property until it’s worth far more than your option price and you’ve had time to test drive it a while.

Joint Venture Facilitation

For land deals, students locate owners of prime commercial land and simply get them to agree to partner with a developer. The owner makes much more money vs. a sale, and the developer doesn’t have to buy the land and can get easy development financing, which otherwise might be impossible due to the credit crunch. The best part is the CTI student gets a piece of ownership of the development for simply locating and bringing both parties together, thus avoiding all the time, expertise, risk and money required to buy and develop land.

Scottish Haggis the traditional Scottish food cheap and filling.

Feb 24, 2009 @ 02:56 pm by articles

Haggis is our national dish but one which a lot of Scots will not eat. Reason they don’t like the idea of the foods that go to make up its bulk and taste.

Robert Burns our national poet wrote a poem to the haggis referring to it as “the Chieftain o’ the Pudding race”. Many say that if it wasn’t for that Address to the Haggis poem few people outside of Scotland and Scottish culture would even have heard of the dish. Robert Burns died in 1796 but his memory lives on and so does his poem to the haggis which is said on 25th of January each year when we celebrate Burns Night. )

You will be able to find the full version of “Address to the Haggis” on our ScottishJerk.com website. The same section of the website includes a template menu for those looking to organise their own Burns Night supper. The template also has the Scottish Grace or Selkirk Grace along with the order of toasts and responses that should be included.

On less formal occasions such as almost every night of the week all year round most Scots COULD buy what is referred to as a haggis supper. This is simply deep fried haggis with chips (outside of Scotland “chips” may be called French fries) and sold mainly as a take-away meal along with Haggis burgers. You can also buy the haggis in many supermarkets although numbers available on the shelf do seem to increase in mid January then fall away again when sales tend to decrease. However this does not tell us what is the secret recipe that makes Haggis so special.

If you ask a Scot many of them will say that the haggis is a small beaver sized animal that lives wild on the sides of our Scottish highland hills. They have adapted to the steep sided slopes by having shorter legs on one side of its body than the other. Darwin explained this under the survival of the fittest theory by pointing out that this difference in leg length allowed them to run in circles around steep Scottish highland hills. Many tourists are very disappointed when they are unable to book on Haggis hunting expeditions at local travel agents.

But joking apart this food is traditionally made up of mainly the cheapest parts of a sheep so it was always particularly popular amongst the poorer people of the land.By tradition the ingredients are mixed from several different meats including the heart, liver and lungs (the latter is often called lights) together with some mutton, onion, suet fat and arrange of spices and herbs to local taste and custom. After mixing it will be placed inside a sheep’s stomach as a lining before being boiled and served usually with neeps (turnip) and boiled potato.

Today you will also find the sheep’s stomach has been replaced with an artificial cellulose casing and several vegetarian versions of the haggis are being made available in supermarkets.

Note it will be almost impossible to get the true traditional haggis in some countries for example the USA it is not possible to sell lung for human consumption. If you want to know more about this traditional Scottish dish please come to our Scottish culture website ScottishJerk.com

Paintball Games

Feb 24, 2009 @ 02:35 pm by articles

Paintball games are ideal for birthday parties, bar-mitzvah or bat-mitzvah parties, school graduation day parties and school outings, bachelor parties, farewell parties for those joining the army, and bash parties for those leaving the army. Paintball games are also used and recommended for the training of military and security personnel.

Paintball games are an adrenaline pumping combination of tag and hide and seek. The action takes place on unique scenario fields designed specifically for paintball games. They are great fun and a wonderful stress-buster. They’re also a good way to improve your cardiovascular fitness.

The games are held more out in the open, with players often in brightly colored uniforms. Airsoft paintball games involve a much more clandestine approach, in which camouflage, stealth and size of the playing area take on a more significant role.

These games are supervised and controlled at all times by professional referees, who are placed on and around the field. They are there to start and stop paintball games, to ascertain that all rules are followed, help out with any problems, control the safety of players, and to ensure as much fun as possible is had by all. The typical paintball game is 10 minutes long and supervised by two referees on each field.

Paintball games are organized on levels from local competition to international matches, and paintball outings are often set up between competing teams used for executive training and relaxation, or for military training maneuvers and the like. Paintball games are often decided by close shots.
