Office furniture ? not like soap operas
When you see a soap opera or movie about high-flying executives, they all seem to have huge offices with lounge suites, cocktail cabinets, and all en-suite facilities. But that is just for TV. To be sure, those high-rolling executives of Wall Street bankers had some pretty swish offices, but the reality is different.
The state of the office all depends whether the incumbent actually had a hand in founding the business or was headhunted to sort it out. If he washired sort it out, then he most likely will have a big office, as it was decided this would encourage him to take the job – along with the Cadillac and all the other perks.
Of course, if the owner is also the managing director, he will probably not want to waste money a large office would need, especially as he spends a lot of time out there running the business. In fact, he might wonder why he needs an office at all – except for somewhere for his secretary to work.
In real life the type of offices directors have is very different from the computer stations that most employees have, and they also differ according to the nation. For example, up in the north of England, and in Yorkshire in particular where they invented the expression ‘where there’s muck there’s brass’ – or dirty jobs bring in the money – they keep things pretty simple.
Office refurb companies turn boring buildings into classyoffices
Not always though, because these days office refurb boys have got some pretty smart ideas of how to turn drab buildings into elegant offices that anyone would be glad to work in. Leeds is one city where there are lots of older office blocks which although in need of office maintenance, can be converted into offices. Office refurbishment in Leeds is easily done these days by a number of specialists.
Obviously, if you are thinking of relocating to Leeds, you will want some office removals to Leeds, and there are specialists that handle moving offices in the city. These are rather different from ordinary removal firms as they are very good at at handling computers and peripherals, office furniture and filing cabinets and that sort of thing.
Other cities where you are likely to find plenty of buildings suitable for turning into offices suitable for a TV show include Manchester and Ayr. On the other hand, the London area, the Midlands were so badly bombed during the war that most of the old buildings were either uselessruined, or demolished later. And those redevelopments of the 50s and 60s look pretty ghastly today.
