Beijing 2008 Olympic Medal Totals

Aug 19, 2008 @ 08:04 pm by articles

It will be very interesting to see which countries win the most medals at this Olympic games in China. It is the U.S.A and China who are normally at the top of the table in recent times, and with the event taking place on China’s home soil they may just have an advantage this year. At the last Olympic games in Athens 2004, a total of 929 medals were awarded to team members from 75 different countries, what is interesting is how these medals were distributed both in those Olympics and throughout Olympic history. This blog is your 2008 Olympics Ticket.

In Athens over half of these 929 medals were distributed among the top 8 countries in the tally, producing a really concentrated effect on the tally table. The Olympic medal tally has always been concentrated to a degree with the United States being by far the biggest medal winners over the years. Throughout Olympic history, the United States team has won almost 2200 medals with 900 of them being gold. This is a really impressive effort when you see that this number more than doubles the closest competition in both the gold and overall categories.

However this is slowly changing as other successful sporting nations are rising to the challenge. Since the first Olympiad in 1896 both the number of medals and the number of different countries winning medals has been slowly increasing. What is really interesting when trying to predict the outcome of this years Summer Olympics 2008 is when we factor in the home team advantage into the equation. A study after the Sydney games in 2000 showed that of the 17 countries who had hosted the Olympic games up until that point, 14 of them had won their greatest percentage of medals at the games that they hosted.

This home advantage if looked at through the lens of history should mean that China will do very well at these Olympic games at the Beijing 2008 Stadium, whether they can beat the United States will only be seen in time. Although there is a random factor to the data, it shows that the home team does on average have more medals and a greater mix of medals at the Olympic games that they host. The Olympic medal tally should reflect this and with China both hosting the games and rising in sporting prowess, it should make for a very interesting Olympic tally in 2008.

Pain Relief For Hemroids

Is it me or does everyone seem obsessed with their health? If you take a look at contemporary articles and news media, you’ll soon become well aware that our world is not well. No, not well to say the least so what has changed so much as time has progressed? My grandmother said that she thinks younger people today see to have more health concerns than they did when she was young. An interesting puzzle: do we differ from people in my grandparent’s time?Perhaps like some people suggest, it’s in the food we eat now.One thing you can rely on though is that whatever the problem, there is a pill or pain relief cream to help with it.

It is all very well knowing that you could just take a pill or rub on some hemroid treatment pain relief cream but where do you go to get them? The drugstore is normally the first place to go.But, just because they are the traditional place to go doesn’t mean they’re the only place to find what you need.Have you ever considered the Internet because I think this is probably the greatest nuance to the world as we know it. I often turn to my Mac G4 Ibook for answers; well it was just a few months back I resorted to the Internet for a pain relief cream. It wasn’t anything special, just something for my possible Carpel Tunnel Syndrome condition.I was just trying to be careful because although I had adjusted my typing position, it might not always be enough.I just didn’t want it getting any worse so I would use the cream as a back-up.

Now when you need a pain relief cream you’ll know exactly where to go and get the answer fast. There’s information on the internet pertaining to untold conditions that a pain relief cream can help with. Your doctor should be the final authority, check with him before starting any new medications.

How to build a new site about jokes

Aug 19, 2008 @ 03:05 pm by articles

Recently I wanted to to see how hard it is to build a new site about jokes. Why jokes? I think “jokes” is one of the best web 2.0 topics you can think about. Almost everyone knows one or two jokes, so anybody can contribute! The first thing I did was to get a good domain name – I chose www.gute-witze.at which means good jokes in german. Pretty neat name, isn’t it?

I chose WordPress as my site plattform because it is easy to install and it is easy to work with. Five minutes later I had my jokes blog up and running.

Next thing was to start getting some content…as it is all about jokes I just wrote a few posts with random jokes that came to my mind. One of the benefits of choosing a blog plattform for the site is that for every post you can choose a category and you do not have any work with getting a category structure for your jokes afterwards. You can even put a joke in multiple categories – WordPress handles it all. Now it seems that Chuck Norris jokes are quite popular in german speaking countries at the moment, so after a while I started getting hits in the Chuck Norris Witze category.

What else did I do – I posted some comment on do follow blog, which I found over here: Find Do Follow Blogs

That was more or less what I did – now I am waiting for the results…
