After reading the headlines many people may think they want to join the ranks and go to nursing school. It is common knowledge that nurse are in short supply the population is getting older, right? That means it must be easy to get into nursing school, right? That answer is generally wrong. Most schools are very competitive and have tough requirements.
Before getting accepted into a program you will generally need to take and pass some form of a nursing school entrance exam first. There is more then one type of a entrance exam and which one you need to take will depend on the school. Therefore when contacting schools make sure to find out their requirements.
Once you know for sure which nurses entrance exam you will need to take there are several steps you must then complete. First and foremost is to find some really good nursing study guides to help you prepare for the test. Then you will need to actually put in the time required studying in order for you to be prepared. If you are applying to more then one school it may be possible you need to sit for more then one exam. You will need to research more on this to find out for sure.
Whatever ever you do decent going into the field of nursing is likely a good choice. Changes are jobs will stay in demand even in tougher economic times. Therefore after you complete your schooling you may have a better chance then some of your peers of actually finding a job after graduating from colleges. Of course that is at least two to four years down the road from now and the economy should be better by then.

Working in technology sales jobs, I thought I had it made. You see, I am naturally charming. Since I was a little kid, I have always been able to get my way with just a word. I can read people pretty well, and I can say what I need to say with cold-blooded precision. Nonetheless, once I got my sales job things started to fall apart. My first week, of course, I did very well. They congratulated me on my excellent sales techniques, and made me out to be a maverick. What I did not know is that they always give you a golden route the first week that you work, to build up your confidence. They figure that, even if your sales technique isn’t all that, you will still think that it is. This will give you the confidence to continue on when the next few weeks aren’t that easy.
I managed to hold a pretty consistent level of sales for the next couple weeks, but it certainly didn’t rise much. My boss was a little bit worried. My sales training was going nowhere, and after a few weeks he decided that he would send me to a seminar. He told me that my sales techniques were raw and unrefined. I was too confident, and that confidence was not always an advantage. Sometimes people saw me as cocky and arrogant, and as a result I was not closing the sale. I could keep people on the phone for a long time, but they didn’t want to buy from me. My retail sales techniques, in short, needed improvements.
I took this all in stride. I have always had a good sense of self-esteem, and I knew that he was only trying to help. I had listened to all of the sales tips that he had given me, but still my sales were stagnating. I wasn’t doing that bad, and my boss assured me that he would keep me on. Nevertheless, I was working on commission. Unless I could get my sales techniques together, I would not make enough money to make this job worth it.
When I got back from the sales training seminar, things were much different for me. It was like night and day. My sales techniques were much more refined. I still had the old confidence, but I could also put people at ease. I was not so aggressive and forceful with my sales techniques. I was more laid back, and this made people like me.

In many career there are multiple paths one can take in order to enter that specific career. While other careers may require very specific training to enter the field. If you decide to go this route in order to become a truck driver make sure you know what you are getting into and what you will owe the company afterwards. It may be free of dollar cost, but you will at least owe them a certain amount of time you will need to work at that company. So make sure to understand it upfront before you sign on for training.
If you are set on getting trained make sure to do your homework on all of your cdl training options before you make a final decision. This is the case with any career you have in interest in pursuing. The more information you have the better.

These days a website is not an indulgence any more, but an absolute necessity. Your website is your image that you show to the world. Even the most humble business run from a garage can present a professional image and project a top-notch company to the world. In other words, if you want to be seen as a expert company you need to make sure that your website projects that image.
In the same way that sales people of a big department store or a business selling B2B (business to business) products and services should always be presentable and attractive, your website should be of equally high standards since your website creates the first impression of your company.
The time and cost that you lavish on your web design is therefore important. The object that I’ve held throughout my living and criss-crossed the nation with, is a tiny electronic chess set. It runs on two AA batteries and has eight unique skill levels. Naturally after 43 years the whites are a bit rusty and I’ve misplaced a knight along the way, but largely and an exchange of batteries from time to time it has lasted with me since I was 15 years old.
The chess set has lived in New York, Alaska, Ohio and Pennsylvania. It braved marriage and survived children. It waits patiently in a cupboard for me to find a moment for a game. Of course I’ve never done it justice, only ever playing to skill level five and for most of the time being adequate at level three or four, but it has been a steady friend. It’s difficult to believe a chess set could be made in 1972 and run on until today, but it held up and it’s still omnipresent primed to play!
There are so many unique and gorgeous chess sets in the world, they can be a fun item to amass or to present as gifts. I have seen gorgeous pieces in the flea markets of Turkey and Israel and in the market places of India. They appear to be a worldwide phenomenon. These moderately priced sets constructed from wood, marble or other local fabrics can be lovely conversation chessmen or decorative components, even if one doesn’t play chess.
To Boot, one can find chess pieces that are designed after a smorgasbord of themes, from civil war chess sets symbolizing the North and South to those made about novels and motion pictures, such as Lord of the Rings.
An historic, better that vintage, chess set on the upper shelf of the laundry room in my parents’ house in a well-worn red box is nothing gem searchers would submit to Antiques Roadshow for an appraisal. Notwithstanding, this set of black and red chess pieces with the strong feel of even the pawns, is priceless.
In my history are stories of childhood, an aunt who passed away before I left grammar school, and hours learning the game and competing with my older sister. Rather of growing into chess, I matured out of it, more distractions and less patience as I went toward teenage years. This chess set provokes precious memories beyond the damaged board and well worn pawns.
I recall when I was a youth that my dad would only on holidays pull out the household chess set. I was invariably so charged to view the hinged wooden box with the red and bronze one inch checkers on it. This wasn’t your garden variety chess set, this was a totally wooden hand crafted set.
I can think of each and every piece with wonderful detail, the knights, so rigorous and firm. The rooks painstakingly straight cylinders with the smallest details showing several hours of work. I continue to own that chess set, it is lacking a couple of pieces now, but I still cannot wait to present it to my sons when they’re old enough to value it.

Playing and learning are so closely related that they often can’t be distinguished at all. In one way or another, most games are educational - even if it were only in educating the player up to a higher level of competition. That’s fairly often overlooked, I believe… but it’s true: even your very own recreational game of tennis, on a sweet summer afternoon with a frefreshing drink witin hands reach, is an educational game!
But let’s be realistic: when talking about educational toys, more often than not we refer to learning objects for our children. Especially in the last decade or two, an astonishing number of educational “tools” have been developed for children of all ages, and even for grown-ups. The latter may or may not be intentional, but a fact is that many of the more intricate educational or learning systems, like those dealing with science and nature, are enthusiasticaly enjoyed by the parents of the children for whom the gift was originaly intended!
This will not so soon happen with educational toys for very young children, like alphabet blocks or ABC blocks. And then there’s the enormous range of educational games/toys for all ages in-between! Looking back on my own youth in the 1940’s and 1950’s I am truly amazed by all the educational tools that are available now! On the other hand I believe that our childrens own creative development suffers from those pre-chewed and bite-sized chunks. I used to be very excited with the almost proverbial cigar box from my grandfather, from which I created houses, factories and garages - the box that is, not my granddad.
So it’s all a matter of relativity, I reckon. Some values are lost, others are gained. But at least, to the considerable relief of sometimes desperate parents, buying educational games and toys has become easier than it was ever before. Generally speaking, this is an improvement.
